When the Play test opens
- Join the testers group with the Google account you actually use on your phone. Google uses group membership to decide who is allowed to see the app.
- Open the opt-in link and press Become a tester. This is the step people skip; without it the Play Store will insist the app does not exist.
- Install from the Play Store link that appears right after opting in. Chain will not show up in Play Store search — the link is the only door.
- Use it for a couple of weeks. Not a chore: start a session when you sit down to work. That is the whole test.
Before switching to Play
- Use one Google account throughout. The account in the group must be the same one signed into the Play Store on your phone. Mismatched accounts is the single most common reason a tester sees “item not found”, and it looks identical to a broken link.
- Already sideloading Chain? Uninstall it first. The Play build is signed with a different key, so Android refuses to update one over the other. Anything not synced to your account is gone with the old install — sign in first, confirm your chain is in the cloud, then uninstall. Signing back in on the new build pulls your chain, wardrobe and stats back down.
What is worth telling me
Bugs, obviously. Beyond those, the things I cannot see from here:
- Did notifications arrive when the app was closed, and did they arrive on time?
- Did a session ever break when it should not have — screen off, a call, switching apps?
- Did anything drain the battery in a way you noticed?
- The first five minutes: what confused you before it clicked?

The honest terms
It is a beta and it will have sharp edges. Chain is free, has no ads and sells nothing — there is no upsell waiting at the end of this. Your email is used to send you the invite and nothing else; you can ask to be removed from the list at any time. What the app collects is spelled out in the privacy policy.
